A look with no eyes?!?

Okay, that's a lie.

There's never gonna be a look from me with no eyes, clearly; that's not even a look. But, whenever there's a look I do that does not involve the eyes as the main focus, then it's basically a look with no eyes in my book, because I'm an eyeshadow whore. And the look I have for you today is one of those looks! This past Thursday rolled around (yes, I did it on Thursday; yes, I'm just now putting up the blog post; no, I don't need your side eye) and with it came another #CreativeSwirls Collab, featuring Miss Codi and Miss Jameliz (I keep wanting to call her Jamie; I call her Jamie in my head - don't tell anybody). Okay, so the previous collab we did involved yellow eyeshadow, and this week's theme was a bold lip; no specific color, just as long as it popped on your face. So when you have a concept like that, you can't break out 17 eyeshadow palettes to use on your eyes, because that defeats the purpose of a bold lip collab! This is why I had no eyes. But a bitch's face was beat regardless (you know, if I do say so myself).

Here's me finessing in the mirror:

And there's no closeup on the eyes today, because, what eyes? There are none.

I felt myself so much that I put a wig on, y'all. Like, it looked good with my little raggedy flat twists, but I just had to up the ante with some wet and wavy, you feel me? I really don't have much more to say; onto the details!

I loved the way that this look came out, even without my usual excessive ass eyes. The only thing I noticed is that I couldn't keep the color opaque on my bottom lip to save my life! I don't know what's going on with my lip these days, but it needs to get its life together, 'cause I'm not having it. Ah! Check out the homies:

I'm honestly sick of both of them.
Alright, that's it! I've got Spanish homework and stories to write in, on my one day off! Later!

An eye look with no palettes?!

Okay, maybe not.

But! But, the main colors for my look today (e.g. the lid colors) were not from a palette! I used single shadows today; yay me!

I really wish that I could give y'all some lengthy, witty post about my day and stuff, but jobs 1 and 2 seriously kicked my butt today, again; you know how weekends go, if you've been reading this blog a while. Plus, I work a cumulative ten hours tomorrow, so I'm going to sleep within the next hour and a half, so let me get into the pictures and the details for you; I know that's what you're here for.

I...am quite pleased.

And a closeup on the eyes (no video today):

I gave good face today, honey. Usually I'm a little opposed to trying to show out when I don't have le crochet braids, and I really don't like wearing contacts without le crochet braids, but today was a home run in my book. Mhm, quite pleased, quite pleased...

I tried out a couple of new things today, and I really liked the outcome! I'm glad I can put some of my new stuff to use; now I won't feel so lame for having bought/received all of it lol.
And...I'm out of juice. Oh yeah, you won't be getting a look from me today, because tomorrow's floor set, and there will not be a drop of makeup anywhere near my face for it (I'm actually debating on wearing slippers). Alright, talk to you later!

It takes a village.

Do you guys know that saying? I'm sure we're all familiar with that phrase. It usually applies to raising children, though (and I usually agree with it, especially when dealing with bad ass kids out in public), but this is a makeup blog, so in this instance, I'm referring to makeup.

Lately I've been teaming up with the lovely Codi (louloulovesbeauty) and Jameliz (jamzbeauty) to figure collaborations for comparison swatching and other things, and we decided to do a collaboration today! The common theme was to use yellow eyeshadow (I gave it a side eye at first), but outside of that anything went. Here's what I came up with:

Me finessing in the mirror:

Closeup on the eyes:

You'll notice that there are quite a few pictures for this look, and that's partially because I did enjoy the outcome, but the main reason why I took and posted so many pictures is because I worked my ass off for this look.

Let me tell you why the BH Cosmetics Take Me To Brazil palette ain't shit.

The color payoff is beautiful, it really is. Just as vibrant in the pan as it is in swatches and on the lid, but the only problem is that it won't stay on the got damn lid. I tried applying these shadows with my brush first, and I got a dull covering over the lid, but to really get this vibrancy I had to pack the shadow on with my fingers, because matte eyeshadows still suck. So yeah, everything's going all good and whatnot, got a little blending going, eyes are poppin' and whatever, but as soon as I went to sketch out my wing, the damn shadow started to move, right off of the white base that I laid under it. And then it transferred like hell onto the hood of my eyes (which you can see in the eye closeup); now, because of the natural shape of my eyes I usually get a little transfer, and I can usually fix the problem by just reapplying my crease shade, but this was ridiculous. I had to set my face like an Easter Island head just to keep the color from transferring too much before I could finish my face and take my pictures (so if my contour is a little off, that's why). I was rooting for you, Take Me To Brazil! We were all rooting for you! I was just talking shit about how good BH was the other day! You're making me look bad!

It took a village, the village shaman, the mailman and the grace of God to bring this look together long enough for me to capture it on film, so yeah, you're going to get nine pictures of this damn look, because I earned it. So there. Here's the details.

Tuesday, April 19, 2016

I'm convinced that y'all hate me.

I really think that, really. I mean, why else would you go flipping through Instagram posts, come across something that is extraordinarily difficult, and immediately think, "Yeah, this is something I want Ashlan to do"? The only explanation is that you hate me, and you want me to stop doing makeup, so I can stop talking and sell all of my stuff on the low-low.

If you haven't guessed it, I got another request.

Well, not technically a request. She didn't ask me to do it; she simply challenged me by saying she could see me doing the look, and my dumb ass took her up on that unspoken challenge, which brings us here, to the look in question:

Photo and look by @pop_of_colour
Really, Reinna? Really? A cut crease? And not just any cut crease, a cut crease with layers and nooks and crannies and secrets and shit. Really? Do you know how hard it is to do a basic ass cut crease on lids a hooded as mine are?! She hates me. She hates me, and so do you, reader, because you're enjoying this. You enjoy my pain.

Here's my little crappy rendition:

And a video. And a comparison shot:

It looks nothing like hers. Nothing. Hers came out looking like some kind of makeup artist goddess, and I look like I'm going to war. But you asked for it, and here it is, so here are the details...if I can explain them right.

I'm tired of y'all. I'm not any of y'all's friends anymore, I hope you know that. Most importantly I'm not friends with myself for taking on this challenge in the first place. I'll see you later, though; I'll see you later.

It's raining sideways outside.

I was gonna come here today with some clever, witty title about chocolate bars or something, but screw that. It's raining like hell.

Like, my street is flooded. My street never floods, and it flooded today. If it's flooding over here, then my school is probably underwater, which is probably why it's shut down. So I couldn't go to work, I can't go to class, and I have a delayed blog to post, so here we go!

I went to work last night, and it kicked my ass as usual, but my face was (relatively) beat, and I wore my hair out!

(Eh? What? What hair?)

Behold (my face) and The Puff!

I'm not sure how I felt about the overall appearance of it, because in some lighting I adored it, and in others I was a little iffy about my face, but some is better than none, I guess! Details!

Okay,  that's it! This took a little more effort than usual, because I didn't write down what I used yesterday, and I had to wrack my frazzled brain to remember what shadows I used, so hopefully these were the ones I used I can't make any promises. Anyway, while I wait for the city to dry up enough to go get my glasses fixed, I'll be writing! Later!

If you ever, even for a second, thought that I was a professional...

This is the post to prove otherwise.

Hello, people. This is just me, coming to you with another unplanned post. I've been on a writing spree as of late, and so my blog posts have been lacking because of it, but it was requested of me by She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named to do a look and a blog post. She had no specific requests, outside of a certain color; she just wanted something to read, and what did I do? I put my pen and notebook down, and I started smearing shit on my face.

That's just the kind of gal I am.

Plus I had been kind of itching to get my hands dirty with this bad boy right here:

Behold, the 35D.

I have never been a very lucky person, but somehow Jesus was smiling down on me and I managed to win a giveaway, the prize of which being any Morphe palette of my choosing, so long as it is in stock (because everybody and their mama knows that the damn 35O is never in stock). I had already ordered two of the 12 pan palettes, and my sights were set on the 35D palette to buy next, and I didn't have to! So thanks again to @espoirdeamour for her giveaway, and for somehow choosing me to win it! Hopefully I will not let you down.
Which brings me to the look of the day.

So clearly I went apeshit with this palette and a slew of other colors, and in the least professional way, I think. It feels a little bit messy, but I like the color combination, and since I never went to school for this (nor do I plan to), I can't really complain! Here are some details for you.

BROWS:
Filler: L'Oreal Paris Brow Stylist Definer in Dark Brunette
Browbone Highlight: L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer in Fawn

EYES:

  • Lid (Gradient from outer corners to the center of the lid, on both sides):
    • #10, in the Morphe 35D Palette
    • #9, in the Morphe 35D Palette
    • #12, in the Morphe 35D Palette
    • #31, in the Morphe 35D Palette
  • Inner Corner: #1, in the BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes Palette, with the Wet 'N Wild ColorIcon Single Eyeshadow in Spiked over top
  • Lower Lash Line (Gradient from outer corner to inner corner):
    • #6, in the Morphe 35D Palette, with the Wet 'N Wild ColorIcon Single Eyeshadow in Binge over top
    • #6, in the E.L.F. Sunset Prism Palette
    • #1, in the Morphe 35D Palette
    • the Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadow in Bella Gold
Eyeliner: NYC Big Bold & Precise Liner in Black
Mascara: L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Millions Lashes Carbon Black
As much of a mess as I feel this is, I like this mess! It was fun to play around with the daring colors in the 35D palette, and to mix some concepts together in the same look, and I enjoyed the challenge. I hope you enjoyed reading about it! Alright now I'm gonna try to make some shrimp alfredo and write some more; wish me luck!

My Sincerest Apologies

I know, I didn't do a blog post for you guys yesterday, and I've apparently spoiled you rotten with daily shenanigans, so I'm sorry for throwing a monkey wrench in your routine.

But see, what had happened was, I had to wash my hair, right. Like, the month for my crochet braids was up and it was time to give some serious attention to my head, so makeup had to take a back seat for once! One day, just one day - get off my ass!

Anyway, I'm back. And I had some new makeup to play with, and a new hairstyle to deal with for the week, so I went sifting through my makeup folder again and unearthed this:

Photo and look by @mariahjbarnum

By one of my favorite makeup artists to recreate from, and I was like...I just got some of the new ColourPop Super Shock Eyeshadows what would match this, so why not? Here's my recreation

Along with some daylight pictures:

Peep the highlight:

A closeup on the eyes:

 Somewhat of a comparison shot:

And a video! This time posted on Photobucket, so hopefully it'll actually work.

Can you tell I was feeling this one??? Of course, it's not an exact recreation, but I thin I came decently close; at least in the same ballpark, I think. I loved it! And even though you can see all of my fat head with this hairstyle, you can also see all of my highlight, so that's a plus and a minus! Details!

I was going to rave some more about the beatness of my face, but I'm getting irritated with trying to sell this last LORAC palette, because everyone hates gold, for some reason. If you're interested in a LORAC palette, let me know! You'll be the only one lol okay I'm going to go buy a sandwich bye!
